The appointment of Health and Safety Representatives is a legal requirement for many employers in South Africa. Research has shown that workplaces that have appointed Health and Safety Representatives experience almost half the number of serious injuries than those without.
Health and Safety Representatives contribute to improving the safety of the workplace by representing their fellow workers, understanding their health and safety concerns and assisting them by participating in decisions that affect them directly.
This course seeks to ensure that Health and Safety Representatives have a sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and related Regulations governing their appointment and clarity in terms of their crucial role in business, getting them ready to perform.
Supervisors and Managers too could benefit by understanding the importance of the role of the Health and Safety Representative and in so doing ensure a holistic approach to workplace safety.
